Florida's First Coast
Jacksonville, Florida is the largest city in the state, and has been the largest city in land area for the continental United States since 1968 when the city and county governments consolidated. Sometimes called "The Bold New City Of The South."
I've made this website as a place for you to find various articles and information about the city of Jacksonville and surrounding areas. The city has a long and storied history that goes back to 1791, when it was founded as a settlement called Cowford. The name Cowford was given to the settlement because of it's location at a point in the river where cows were driven across. The current name of Jacksonville was given to the area because of Andrew Jackson, who was the first military governor of the Florida Territory and who later became President of The United States.
Today, Jacksonville has more to offer than ever. I've lived in Jacksonville for nearly all of my life. If you want sun, sports, activities, outdoor fun, classy restaurants, hotels, watersports and so much more, Jacksonville can give it! So check out the menu on the left side of the page and explore this site at your leisure, and be sure to check out our Jacksonville Blog for random thoughts about to happenings in our city!
