Two video cameras were found pointing at a trailer’s front door Wednesday, while every other door and window was boarded up or screwed tight so no one could get in — or out — of the home in the 6400 block of Flowers Avenue, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Now a 38-year-old man who lived in that Westside trailer has been arrested on charges of aggravated assault, false imprisonment and battery after his girlfriend said she had been held hostage for months and threatened, according to police.

The victim said she had to resort to threatening suicide so she could call police, something Gail Patin, chief operating officer of Jacksonville’s Hubbard House, said was a “courageous” way to get out of the abuse. Hubbard House offers emergency shelter for victims of domestic abuse and battery, plus counseling and children’s services for those who live with violence.

Patin called this woman’s ordeal an “extreme case of isolation,” the worst cases of which can end in death.

“The level of isolation is a very common way a perpetrator deals with his victim,” she said. “… The most extreme is people who are killed. This level of isolation is very extreme. She was very fortunate to get out and get help. It sounds like he had her every move controlled and she lived in fear.”

Peter S. Qaoud remains in jail on $225,000 bail. Qaoud also was convicted in August 2005 on an assault charge, Duval County court records show.

Officers went to the trailer off Jammes Road about 1 p.m. after a woman called threatening to kill herself. A neighbor told them the man inside beats up the woman and boarded up all the doors so she can’t leave, according to the arrest report. The neighbor also pointed to the two video cameras.

After a half-hour of knocking on the doors and windows, a man and woman came to the front door. Officers separated Qaoud from 37-year-old Jami Nicole Robinson, who was scared and upset, according to the police report. She told officers she has been abused for the two years she and Qaoud lived together as boyfriend and girlfriend.

She said he broke her thumb on Christmas Eve and wouldn’t let her get it treated, and also threatened to kill her with a gun twice. If she tried to call police, he would break her cell phone and threaten her with homemade weapons. Police said officers found two home-made clubs, one with screws and nails sticking out of it, as well as a baseball bat, hammer and ammunition, but no guns.
