RIP Billy Powell

Billy Powell, the keyboard player for Lynyrd Skynyrd, died at his Orange Park condo early this morning, according to police. Billy survived the band’s tragic 1977 plane crash. RIP Ronnie Van Zant Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines, road manager Dean Kilpatrick, pilot Walter McCreary and co-pilot William Gray. Today is the 30th “anniversary” of the tragic plane crash that took the lives of members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, the legendary band from Jacksonville’s westside that pioneered the Southern Rock genre of music.
